Meet the analysts

We asked one of our analysts, Upendra M. Choudhary, about his role

  1. What is your role?
Keeping track of European banks and financial institutions to develop credit investment ideas for a German trading floor and their external clients. I base recommendations on economic analysis, market events and credit fundamentals of the issuer in order to pre-position for anticipated credit spread developments. I monitor and revise recommendations as appropriate. This is the second client I have worked under Frontline since 2005.
  2. What do you enjoy about it?
The work is quite involving and challenging given changes in the banks’ operating environment and hitherto unforeseen developments unfolding, especially at extraordinary periods like now. It is very rewarding when our trading calls go well and gives intellectual satisfaction of a job well done.
  3. What is your relationship with your client?
We are integrated into the research strategy of our bank. We are in two-way conversation with the traders throughout the day, over the Bloomberg and by phone. We always, of course, adhere strictly to the research compliance rules that apply to publishing analysts in Germany. All of my published work goes out under my name and the client logo, to hundreds of the bank’s own clients.
  4. Where did you study?
Masters in management from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, which has been consistently ranked among the top 3 Indian business schools. I came in the top 10% of my year. Plus, cleared all levels of the CFA program (administered by the CFA Institute, USA) at the first attempt.
  5. What did you do before joining Frontline Analysts?
I was a corporate strategy analyst, advising a number of financial firms on their processes and systems.
  6. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I will be the principal of an Indian credit hedge fund!
